"1870 BARDEN ALLEN Sampson County NC 305, Clinton, Turkey Township Federal Population Schedule NC 1870 Federal Census Index NC52313571; Allen Barden, 29, M, W, farmer; Virginia, 21, F, W, house; Lorena, 1, F, W. Also, in the household was Jane, age 16, F, B, house." H. C. Barden is not listed.

"Allen Solomon Barden, Pvt. Co. K, Reg't 48 Inf., born 1841 in Sampson County. Farmer. Enlisted 1861 in Sampson County, wounded twice. Moved to Fayetteville about 1886, died April 1896".
Died, In this town last night, Allen S. Barden, Funeral will take place this afternoon at 5 o’clock from, Baptist Church, Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend. Fayetteville, N. C. April 29th, 1896 [6, 7, 11]
