| HIST | of Florence, South Carolina Samuel Elwood Barnes Barnes, Samuel Elwood Samuel Elwood Barnes FLORENCE - Samuel Elwood Barnes, 79, of Florence, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015, in Commander Nursing Center. Elwood was born in Lee County, a son of the late Kenneth and Alberta Davis Barnes. He was an avid practical jokester who loved his family, fishing, and woodworking. He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife, Sarah Bethune Barnes, a son, Ronnie Barnes, and a brother, Charles Barnes. Surviving are three sons, Andy Ray (Jennifer) Barnes, Michael Lewis (Sallie) Barnes and Kenneth Sidney Barnes, all of Florence; two daughters, Sandy (Amos) Goldie of Richmond, VA, and Cynthia Miller of Columbia; a stepdaughter, Dwan (Everette) Beach of Manning; five grandchildren, Bradley and Taylor Barnes, Christopher and Christina Miller, and Heather McLeod; three great-grandchildren, A.J. Self, Hannah and Sarah McLeod; three siblings, Bill (Ruffy) Barnes of Bishopville, Annette (Tommy) Childers of Sumter, and Barbara (Vernon) Jacobs of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, in the chapel of Cain-Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
