| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina THOMAS LIDE CHILDERS Posted Wednesday, April 5, 2023 6:00 am Thomas Lide Childers, 76, husband of Annette Barnes Childers, died on Monday, April 3, 2023, at his lake home in Summerton. Born on Dec. 9, 1946, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late Lide Childers and Betty Jean Young. He retired from Farmers Telephone Coop. after 35 years and nine months of service. He was a proud member of the Riff Raff Club at Polly's Landing at Santee. Survivors include his wife of 53 years; three children, Donnie DuRant (Deanae) of Chapin, David DuRant (Angie) of Sumter and Tommi Miller (Jimmy) of Torrington, Wyoming; grandchildren, Briah Player, Caitlin Player, Abbye Price (Matt), Kayla Welch (Kevin), Thomas DuRant (Spencer Shealy), Kara Dawsey (Smith), Ryan DuRant and Zach DuRant; great-grandchildren, Nora, Amelia, Olive, Levi, Avery, Cisco, Nolan and Drew; and siblings, Ralph Young (Cindy), Brenda Ard, Debbie Sisson (Bobby) and John Childers. He was preceded in death by siblings, Jimmy Childers, Shirley Childers and Andy Young; and close friends, William Barfield and Joe Walker. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jody Flowers officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marcus Opher, Oneal Solomon, Jeffrey Young, Cory Henderson, Bradley Clayborne and Glendon Young. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home in Sumter.
