She was an unselfish volunteer to her entire commuity wherever she lived and was frequently recognized for her dedication and excellent organizational skills. She was the director of the Red Cross volunteers at Shaw Air Force Base and became the first civilian to be awarded the Air Combat Command “Real Pro” Award from the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base. She was an active member and president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and active member of the Palmetto Girl’s State selection committee. She was president of, and involved in the Cosmopolitan Club of Sumter. She was an executive secretary by profession both in the private sector and federal civil service. [2] |
