Posted Friday, September 9, 2016 6:00 am Davis LeRoy "Roy" Reames Jr., 92, husband of Jean Vermillion Reames, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born in Appleton, he was a son of the late Davis L. Reames Sr. and Norma Walker Guess Reames. Roy was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class, the choir and served on various boards. He was a graduate of Clemson A&M College and received a master's degree from Appalachian State. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Corps and retired from Sumter School District 17 after 48 years of service. Roy loved to fish and hunt and was a member of several hunting and fishing clubs. Surviving are his wife of Sumter; one son, Davis L. Reames III (Beth) of Sumter; two grandsons, Drs. Davis Reames and Alexa Reames of Savannah, Georgia, and Matthew Frederick Reames of Durham, North Carolina; and two great-grandchildren, Roen and Cort Reames. He was preceded in death by a son, Norman Guess Reames, and a brother, Julian Guess Reames. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Day officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the church foyer and other times at the home, 416 Adams Ave. Private burial will be held in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Bishopville.
