| HIST | of Omaha, Nebraska of Maryland of Oxon Hill, Maryland HELEN FRANCES YOUNG Posted Saturday, April 18, 2020 6:00 am Helen Frances Young, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at home, with her family by her side. Helen was born on Feb. 21, 1940, in Mechanicsville, to Joseph and Cora Kirby and had five siblings. Helen was wed to Joseph "Wayne" Young of Oklahoma. At that time, her husband, Wayne, was serving active duty in the United States Air Force. During their 38 years of marriage, Wayne's active duty service took them around the world. Finally, they settled at their last duty station at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where they resided in Oxon Hill, Maryland. At this time, Helen began working for the Air National Guard while pursuing her degree in accounting from University of Maryland. Her husband passed away in January 1995. Helen continued her service to the nation and served faithfully for 35 years, until her retirement in September 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, and her siblings, Dot, Julia, Annie Ruth, Faye and Tommy. She is survived by her four children, Janet, Greg, Mark and Jason Young; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She leaves behind nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly, and many close friends. An outdoor service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery in Sumter. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Wounded Warriors Project in her name. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
