Raymond T. Alford
Raymond T. Alford, age 72, beloved husband of Barbara Coward Alford, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Norfolk, Va., he was a son of the late John B. and Mary A. Alford. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and Civil Service. He was a member of the First Southern Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Anthony Alford of Sumter; three brothers, the Rev. John Alford and his wife, Nancy, of Littleton, N.C., Donnie Alford and his wife, Bonnie, of Corapeake, N.C., and Howard Alford and his wife, Sandra, of Portsmouth, Va.; two sisters, Mary Rogers of South Boston, Va. and Jo Anne Edwards of Chesapeake, Va.; special friends, Lauren and Michael Cotton and Richard Duncan Jr., all of Sumter; two brothers-in-law, Thurman Coward and his wife, Myrtle, of Salem and John W. Coward and his wife, Hilda, of Sumter.
The family would like to send a heart-felt thank you to the Fresenius Medical Care Sumter Dialysis Center, Sole Response Ambulance Service and Sumter Health and Rehab for their care and compassion.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Ellison L. Evans III officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today prior to services at Bullock Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, Fund 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852; or to Southern Methodist Church, 321 Miller Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
