| HIST | I couldn’t figure all of this out. So, I’m not going to add any of this information. jkh Hello Jackie, I've been working on this line since 1965. I started the idea that Elijah's father was John Ferguson who married Martha Hammett early in my research. It seemed to make sense, but I had my DNA tested by FTDNA and it was proven wrong. Elijah descended from Robert Ferguson of Midlothian, Scotland b. 1641 d. 1681 and Jane Jennet (I've seen her name spelled other ways.) I haven't been able to determine the father of Elijah. I've never found a birth recorded of an Elijah who fits. I have a theory about where he fits in though. DNA proves that he was very closely related to a Ferguson family that moved to all of the same places he did: Wilkinson County, MS; Louisiana; Copiah Co., MS: Carroll Co., MS; and Arkansas. Elijah's children and Moses Ferguson's children married siblings too. Daniel Ferguson was young enough to father a child and Sarah Graves was young enough to have children when Daniel died. I think Daniel had made out a will that named his other children, but Elijah wasn't included in the will. Moses, who would have been an older brother of Elijah, came back to Virginia to be the executor, then went back to his plantation. Daniel Ferguson who married Sarah Graves died in January of 1776, but the only record I've ever seen of that is a record of his belongings. He could easily have died in 1775, the same year that Elijah is said to have been born. Daniel was 44 and Sarah was 18. She might not have known she was pregnant when Daniel died. Moses was the executor of the will. I think he could have taken Elijah in and raised him with his children. That would explain why Elijah was said to have been born in Virginia, but all of the children of Moses were born in South Carolina. It would also explain why they traveled to the same places at the same times. Richard [1] | |
