| HIST | ROBERTA KIRBY COKER Posted Tuesday, July 19, 2022 6:00 am Roberta Kirby Coker, 88, widow of Alvin Coker, died on Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Gardens at Sumter. Born in Cades, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow E. and Isla Tyler Kirby. Mrs. Coker was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church and retired from Belk Department Store with 40 years of service. Surviving are a son, Randy Coker (Lisa) of Sumter; a daughter, Lisa Mellon (Jim) of Sumter; a sister, Nancy Kirby of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Ashleigh Price (Brad), Jamie Mellon, Jonathan Coker and Laura Welborn (Travis); and a great-grandson, Foster Price. A great-granddaughter is expected to arrive in August. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth G. Kirby, and a sister, Frances Kirby Elliott. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Bob Brearley officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
