  HIST	of Sumter, South Carolina BETTY ANN PURVIS McGEE Posted Friday, January 23, 2026 5:52 pm Betty Ann Purvis McGee, 88, widow of Herbert DuPree McGee died Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at NHC Healthcare-Sumter. Born March 6, 1937, in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Eugene Douglas Purvis and the late Lillie Mae Moody Moore. Mrs. McGee was a member of Harmony Church. She retired after over 50 years of being a beautician. Survivors include: two children, Connie M. Brogdon (W.T.) of Sumter and Alan McGee  (Monica) of Hilton Head Island; six grandchildren, Turner Brogdon (Christine), Kendall  Brogdon (Sam), Preston McGee, Landon McGee, Morgan McGee and Drake McGee; three great-grandchildren, Brinson Brogdon, William Brogdon and Windham Watford; a brother, Donald Purvis; four sisters, Patty Speder, Shirley Johnson, Gladys Sturgeon and Judy Dell’Armo; and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Gaydon. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026 in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. John Patrick officiating. Memorials may be made to Harmony Church, 1021 Sterling St., Sumter, SC 29153. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.  [1, 2, 7]
