at death- he had 4 great-grandchildren He served as president of the bank from 1953-1963, chairman of the board from 1963-1973, and chairman of the executive committee until semi-retirement in 1976. The Georgia Bankers Association presented him with a “Cerificate of Appreciation” for 50 years of service to the banking industry in Jul, 1985. He served 26 years on the City Council of Calhoun and was instrumental in establishing the Tom B. David Airport, the local National Guard Armory, the Calhoun-Gordon County Recreation Department, the Calhoun High School swimming pool and Phil Reeve Memorial Stadium. He also was involved in the formation of the New Echota Historical Site; was a charter member of the Calhoun Elks Lodge; and was Civil Defense director for 16 years.
