Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late John Russell Ardis and Ellen Barwick Ardis. Mr. Ardis was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and was a retired civil engineer from Shaw Air Force Base. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He loved horseback riding. Survivors include three sons, Sam Ardis of Florida, John Ardis of Washington and Cleveland E. "Skip" Ardis Jr. of Hartsville. No local services are planned. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
