DONNIE FLETCHER Posted Wednesday, December 23, 2020 6:00 am Isom "Donnie" Fletcher, having passed through the valley of the shadow of death, Donnie received his eternal reward on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, and will dwell in the house of the Lord forever (Psalm23). Donnie was born on Nov. 27, 1945, in McCrae, Georgia, to the late Reuben Lee Fletcher and Macy Padgett Fletcher McCoy. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Oswego. Moving to Oswego at a young age, and upon graduating from Mayewood High School, Donnie attended Spartanburg Junior College. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Donnie was employed with CSX Railroad and retired after 40 years of service as a railway conductor. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and helping those in need. He was a very humble man of strong faith. Donnie's family was of utmost importance to him as he enjoyed following the lives of his children and six grandchildren in all of their goals and accomplishments. He spent his last days surrounded by those he loved. Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret Copeland Fletcher, who was his best friend, love of his life and most loyal caregiver. He is also survived by his beloved children of Sumter, Gina McLeod (Donnie) and Jill Fox (Trey); and six grandchildren, James Edens Rabon, Fletcher Rabon, Mary Margaret Rabon, Mary Kathryn Metts (David), Morgan Elizabeth Shaffer and Benjamin Christopher Shaffer. In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his stepfather, Wesley Julian McCoy; a brother, James Carlton Fletcher; a stepsister, Catherine McCoy McElhaney; and brother-in-law, John McElhaney. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia. The family would like to thank his special caregivers, Lila Wells, Rita Hampton and Velma Rose for their excellent care and to extend their deepest appreciation to Dr. Mayes Dubose and Caris Hospice. In order to give hope to others, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305 or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.
