| HIST | of Coward, South Carolina Virley Gause Evans Virley Gause Evans WEST COLUMBIA - Mrs. Virley Gause Evans, 97, of West Columbia, SC, passed away on May 31, 2017. Virley was born February 20, 1920, in Scranton, SC, a daughter of the late John Frank McKnight and Evelyn Huggins McKnight. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Dewey Gause and her second husband, D.D. Evans; and siblings, Louise McKnight Blakely, Clarice McKnight Smiley, Gladys McKnight Barton, Dot McKnight Kight, Dolorette McKnight Chastain, Lloyd McKnight and Harry McKnight. Virley graduated from Scranton High School. She lived the majority of her adult life in Coward, SC ,where she worked for the United States Postal Service for thirty years. Upon retirement, she and Mr. Evans traveled extensively in the US. Virley was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Coward, SC. Virley enjoyed painting and won many blue ribbons for her artwork. She was an accomplished seamstress and made all of her clothing. In her later years she began knitting and crocheting and made many sweaters and afghans for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. From 2010 until the present, she was a resident of Still Hopes Retirement Community, West Columbia, SC. Survivors include her sons, James Dwight (Patricia) Gause of Wetumpka, Alabama, and Frank (Diane) Gause of Lexington, SC; grandsons, Bryan Scott (Hadyn) Gause and Kevin Michael (Elizabeth) Gause; one granddaughter, Timi Gause of Wetumpka, Alabama; and five great-granddaughters. A memorial service will be at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton, SC, on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery, Coward, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the charity of your choice .
