MARY P. HUDSON
MANNING -- Mary Plowden Hudson, 93, widow of Dr. William Carl Hudson, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, N.C.
Born Oct. 30, 1916, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Ashton and Lizzie Oliver Plowden. She was a secretary-bookkeeper for D.W. Alderman & Sons Lumber Co. in Alcolu. She attended Draughons Business College in Columbia. She was married in 1940 for 64 years until her husband's death in 2005. Mrs. Hudson was a member of John Wesley Methodist Church in Charleston. She loved her sewing and her gardening.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann Hudson Griffith and husband, Mike, of Richmond, Va., and Carol Hudson Waldman and husband, Jim, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Walter Barnes Wall III of Richmond, Dr. Jeffrey Michael Waldman and his wife, Kelley, of Nashville, Tenn., Kristen Waldman Heath and her husband, Andrew, of Wilmington and Elizabeth Hudson Waldman (Beth) of Raleigh, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Bailey Elizabeth Wall of Summerville, Luke Hudson Waldman and Bennett Thomas Waldman of Nashville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Irene Thomas, Helen Dickson, Winnie Green, Isabelle DuBose and Ashton Bozard; and a brother, Hugh Ashton Plowden Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Manning Cemetery with the Rev. Debra Quilling Smith officiating.
Pallbearers will be Walter Barnes Wall III, Dr. Jeffrey Michael Waldman, Henry Plowden Bozard, Hal Allen, Andrew Heath, Andrew Norton, Tony Altman, Andy Altman and Lonnie Herman Kirksey.
Memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or to a charity of one's choice.
