| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina RICHARD BUCHANAN BURNS JR. Posted Monday, March 18, 2024 5:00 pm Richard Buchanan Burns Jr., 71, died Monday, March 18, 2024, at his home. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Richard Buchanan Burns and Emily Rowland Burns. Mr. Burns was a member, deacon and elder of Wedgefield Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of The Citadel and was owner and operator of Burns Engineers. Surviving are three brothers, Alwin Burns of Sumter, Claude Burns (Ellen) of Summerville and Charlie Burns (Marian) of Sumter, and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at noon Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Wedgefield Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jody Foster and the Rev. Blake Jenkins officiating. Private graveside services will be held in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
