MANNING – Susie Mae Shorter Lowder, 77, widow of Adger McLaurin Lowder, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at MUSC in Charleston.
Born Dec. 22, 1931, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Rufus N. Shorter and Camilla Tennant Shorter McLeod. She was a retired housekeeper, and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mildred Braxton of Manning; a son, Robert L. Lowder (Harriet) of Manning; a sister, Joan Smith of Sumter; four brothers, Bobby and Billy Shorter, both of Sumter, and Charles and Roy Shorter, both of Manning; four grandchildren, Archie Braxton, Crystal Lowder, Randall Lowder and Jason Lowder; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jueline Ward and Mary Mims; and a brother, William J. Shorter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Davis Station with the Rev. Carl Ritter and the Rev. Morris Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randall Lowder, Jason Lowder, Archie Braxton, A.J. Braxton, Craig Shorter, Nick Shorter and David Harrison.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 7 E. South St., Manning.
