Elliott Sr. PINEWOOD - Robert Pinckney Elliott Sr. went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, in Mount Pleasant. Elliott was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Pinewood, and was the son of John Louis Elliott and Pinkey Owens Elliott. A graduate of Pinewood High School, he attended USC briefly before joining his father in the J.L. Elliott Lumber Company. Bob joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served his country during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Anne Louise Broughton Elliott, and his only son, Robert Pinckney Elliott Jr. Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Pinckney Elliott of Charleston and Mary Anne Heim of Augusta, Ga. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Robert Milton Thomas III (Lisa), Jill Broughton Thomas, Anne Thomas Moise (Mason), John Alexander Welch Thomas (Evelina), Robert Pinckney Elliott III (Dixie), Gregory Louis Elliott, and Mary Catherine Broadrick (Brett); and 14 great-grandchildren. Bob was an accomplished craftsman who created unique works of art in his retirement. He had a great love of nature and outdoor activities and possessed the spirit of an adventurer. A highlight of his life was the time spent in the South American country Suriname in the 1960's, and he enjoyed telling stories of his experiences there. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pisgah Pentecostal Church, Panola Road, Pinewood, with internment in the Elliott Community Cemetery adjacent to the church. The family will receive friends after the services at the home, 9 Hampton St. in Pinewood. Memorials may be made to Pisgah Pentecostal Church or the Elliott Community Cemetery, c/o Miriam B. Johnson, 2430 Tearcoat Road, Alcolu, SC 29001. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
