MARION B. HANNA Jr.
Marion Benjamin "M.B." Hanna Jr., 82, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at his home.
Born May 1, 1927, in Norwood, N.C., he was a son of the late Marion B. Sr. and Josephine Hatcher Hanna. Mr. Hanna was educated in the Sumter County Schools and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked many years with Sumter Machinery and retired from Campbell Soup Co. with 34 years of service. He was a lifelong active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He was a Mason, a member of American Legion Post 15, an avid gardener and enjoyed square dancing.
Mr. Hanna spent his life serving his church, helping others in the community, and cherishing his family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Brenda (Buddy) Holmes of Sumter and Barbara (Ben) Herlong of Gramling; two sisters, Anna H. Byrd of Danville, Va., and Marcella H. Sasser of Augusta, Ga.; a brother, Rufus (Deanna) Hanna of West Columbia; five grandchildren, Wayne (Kasey) Holmes of Sumter, Jennifer (Jason) Lusk of Irmo, Heather (Seth) Dailey of Irmo, Wade Herlong and Christine Herlong of Gramling; three great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Aubree Holmes of Sumter and Logan Dailey of Irmo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Euzelian Sunday School class.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1935 Millwood Road.
