Briggs, died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at his home. Born in Charleston, he was a son of the late Willie Thomas Briggs and the late Irene Matthews Briggs. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ian Briggs of Summerton; three daughters, Melissa Briggs, Hope Ann Briggs and Emily Briggs, all of Sumter; a sister, Tammy Lynn Gainey of Sumter; four stepchildren, Marlana Brown, Jessica Mooneyhan and Tammy D. Simpson, all of Sumter, and Makela Ann Goins of Georgia; and his stepfather, Carl D. Barkley of Sumter. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
