  HIST	Ann Fripp Jones Hampton SUMMERVILLE — Ann Fripp Jones Hampton, a resident of the Presbyterian retirement village of Summerville, died Monday, October 26, 2009. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Friday, October 30, 2009, at 2 p.m. with burial in the churchyard. The Rev. Michael R. Lumpkin will officiate. Parks Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends at the home of her niece, Mrs. C.M. “Chipper” Allen, at 1125 South Main St., Summerville on Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m.   Mrs. Hampton was born in Charleston, May 7, 1928, the daughter of Ethel Croskeys Fripp Jones and Edward Meredith Jones, both of Walterboro. She was a graduate of Summerville High School, St. Mary’s Junior College, Raleigh, N.C., and Converse College, Spartanburg, S.C. She studied at the Richland Art School in Columbia, S.C., and earned a certificate from the Cordon Bleu School of Cooking in Paris, France. She was the author of a number of papers and published articles on local and family history and of two books, A Divided Heart, Letters of Sally Baxter Hampton 1853-1862 (1980 and 1984) and Tombstones and Tablets, Inscriptions in St. Paul’s Church and Churchyard, 1847 -1997 (1998). She was a member of St. Paul’s Guild, the South Carolina Historical Society, the Henry Timrod Library, and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina.   She was formerly married to the late Dr. Ambrose Gonzales Hampton Jr. of Columbia and is survived by their two children, Ann Hampton LaVecchia and Anthony Hampton of Columbia, and their two grandchildren, Nicholas LaVecchia of Charlotte, N.C., and Olivia Hampton of Columbia. Also surviving are a niece, Cheri Jones Allen and her husband, Carl M. “Chipper” Allen ,of Summerville, and two nephews, E. Meredith Jones II and Neyle D. Jones and his wife, Laura, all of Summerville. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Henriette Dargan Morris of Raleigh, N.C., and niece, Dargan Williams of Raleigh, and nephews Ben Morris Jr. of Pawleys Island, S.C., Hampton Morris of Atlanta, and Page Morris of Columbia. Her brother, Allan Meredith Jones, predeceased her.   Memorials may be made to the Churchyard Fund of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 111 Waring St, Summerville, SC 29483; the Presbyterian Village of Summerville, 201 W. 9th North St., Summerville, SC 29483; or a charity of one’s choice.   Arrangements by Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North St., Summerville, SC 29483.  [5]
