McCASKILL Jr. BISHOPVILLE -- Alva Laverne McCaskill Jr., 73, of Bishopville, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, of pulmonary fibrosis. He was born May 30, 1933, the son of the late Alva L. McCaskill Sr. and Clara Stokes McCaskill. Mr. McCaskill was the owner of Lyndale Farms, where he bred Registered Guernsey Dairy Cattle for 40 years. He was a 1954 graduate of Clemson University and served in the U.S. Army. A lifetime member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, he served as chairman of the Board of Directors for the church. He was a life member of the Dairy Hall of Fame and his membership in the American Guernsey Cattle Club brought him world-wide friendships. He received many awards and recognition throughout his life for public service and his profession. Mr. McCaskill served on several boards, including Farmers Telephone Cooperative, Cassatt Water Co., Lee County Farm Bureau, Lee County Arts Council Foundation, and the Lee County Disabilities and Special Needs Board and Foundation. Mr. McCaskill is survived by his wife, JoAnn Chamblee McCaskill; his son, Dr. Al McCaskill III and his wife, Karen, of Bishopville; his daughters, Lee McCaskill of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Ann McCaskill McIlhenny and her husband, Lt. Col. Timothy McIlhenny of Langley Air Force Base, Va. He was also survived by two sisters, Etha M. Bailey of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., and Barbara Jane Boyce of Bishopville; and grandchildren, Capt. Joshua T. Watson, MD, and Dr. Theresa Martin Watson, Alva L. McCaskill IV, Kristy McCaskill, Amber McCaskill and Micah McIlhenny. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Roger Sheldon McCaskill. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the St. Matthews United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Chamblee-McCaskill Scholarship Fund of Clemson University, Barr Hall, Clemson, SC 29631; St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 2144 Stokes Bridge Road West, Bishopville SC 29010; or to the Edisto Beach Baptist Church, 414 Jungle Road, Edisto Beach, SC 29438.
