| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina MARGARET E. COCKERILL Posted Tuesday, September 20, 2016 6:00 am Margaret Evelyn Cockerill, 81, died on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born on april 16, 1935, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Noah Irby Cockerill Sr. and Retha Hodge Cockerill Flood. Miss Cockerill was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church. Margaret lived at Radcliff Group Home for many years. She enjoyed being there and loved all the wonderful people of the Disabilities and Special Needs, her caretakers and housemates. She enjoyed the game of Yahtzee, jigsaw puzzles, old TV shows and the Atlanta Braves. Surviving are a brother, William M. Cockerill Sr. (Betty) of Sumter; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Noah Irby Cockerill Jr. and Robert D. Cockerill; and three sisters, Norine Giles, Melba McCall and Susie M. Scurry. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Providence Baptist Church with Pastor Pat Coffey and Pastor Wayne McElveen officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews. Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church Building Fund, 2445 Old Manning Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
