- Benjamin was among a group of Scottish Highlanders recruited by James Oglethorpe to settle in Georgia. These Highlanders, recruited from the vicinity of Inverness, Scotland, were to serve as defense against the Spanish in Florida. They with their wives, children, and indentured servants sailed from Scotland on the ship, Prince of Wales, in October of 1735. On the Prince of Wales, listed as passengers, were Benjamin McIntosh, age 50 of Dores, farmer; Catherine McIntosh, age 45; two daughters, Elizabeth, age 20 and Janet, age 18; a son Lachlan, age 12. Listed separately were two other sons: John McIntosh, age 21 of Dores, farmer; and Roderick McIntosh, age 19 of the Highland Rangers.
