Pinckney, 85, died on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at the home of daughter, Daisy P. Johnson. She was born Dec. 29, 1923, in Sumter, the daughter of the late Joseph T. Boykin and Mrs. Daisy Howard Boykin. She attended the public schools of Sumter County. In her youth she was baptized at the the Union Baptist Church. After marriage she moved her membership to Hopewell Baptist Church where she served as president of the Usher's Ministry and was a member of the Pastor's Aid Ministry faithfully until her health failed. She was united in marriage to Marion Pinckney Sr., and together they reared seven children. She was preceded in death by Marion Pinckney Sr. and their son, Marion Pinckney Jr., her brother, Joseph T. Boykin Jr. and her sister, Louise Miller. She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Corine (Willie) Burke of Edison, N.J., and Daisy P. Johnson of Irvington; a daughter-in-law, Marie Pinckney, wife of the late Marion Pinckney Jr., of Pascataway, N.J.; four sons, Arthur (Lillie) Pinckney of Edison, Joseph (Mary) Pinckney of Newark, N.J., and Richard (Shirley) Pinckney and Charles Pinckney, both of Irvington; a daughter-in-law, Vanessa Pinckney; a son-in-law, John W. Johnson; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Mrs. Thelma Cookley of Philadelphia, Pa., Julia Pettyjohn and Arthuree Johnson, both of Sumter, and Sadie Singleton of Columbia; one brother-in-law, Pharish Pinckney of Williston; a caregiver, Francine Guillen; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Hopewell Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Richard Addison officiating, assisted by the Rev. Willie Dennis, the Rev. Edward L. Sanders and the Rev. Dr. Lewis Walker Jr. Interment will follow in the churchyard cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Chapel of James Funeral Home and also at the home, 6593 Camden Highway, Rembert.
