Is Virginia or Retta her mother? jkh Date Published: June 21, 2009 ROSE KERCHEVAL Rose Jeannette Ray Kercheval, wife of Joseph Brandon Kercheval, and daughter of Virginia Ray and the late Forrest Ray and Retta Sims and the late Roger Sims, died Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Audie Murphy Veterans' Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, after an extended illness. Rose was born March 21, 1956, in Denver, Colo. After graduation from Hillcrest High School, Dalzell, in 1974, Rose entered the U.S. Navy and enjoyed a career as a Navy chef. Her Naval assignments took her to Puerto Rico and Corpus Christi, Texas. After leaving the Navy, she settled in Corpus Christi, where she met and married Brandon in 1999. They made their home in Pipe Creek, Texas. Rose shared a family fondness for music and was herself an accomplished flutist. She was a loving and caring wife, daughter, and aunt who remembered everyone's special occasions. In addition to her husband of Pipe Creek, Rose is survived by three sisters and three brothers, Roxanna Ray Parrish of Hinesville, Ga., Robert Dee Ray of Savannah, Ga., Rebecca Ray Turner of Fairbanks, Alaska, Wayne David "Sting" Ray and his wife, Teresa, of Charlotte, N.C., Laura Ray Blanchard and her husband, Richard, of Charleston and Maj. William Forrest Ray and his wife, Susan, who are currently en route to an Air Force assignment at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt. Rose had eight nephews and seven nieces, Benjamin Parrish, Elizabeth Hollman, Heather Hunter, Melodee Brant, Forrest Adams, Geoffrey Parrish, Kristine Adams, Justin Ray, Joshua Ray, Kathryn Blanchard, Stockton Blanchard, Mary Elizabeth Ray, Laura Grace Blanchard, William Forrest Ray Jr. and Matthew Ray. She was also blessed with eight great-nephews and two great-nieces, Ryan Parrish, Alec Barger, Dakota Best, Allison Grace Hunter, Pate Parrish, Emma Adams, Michael Hollman Jr., Joseph Parrish, Samuel Painter and Braylon Ray.
