| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina Obituary for James Edward Walton Sr. James Edward Walton Sr., 81, husband of Winnifred Fick Walton, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at his home. Born in Petersburg, Va., he was a son of the late Sidney E. Walton and Margaret Lee Humphries Walton. Mr. Walton was a member of Monument Baptist Church in Petersburg and the American Legion Post, No. 15 and the NARFE. He was retired from civil service and was a US. Army veteran. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two sons, James E. Walton Jr. of Columbia and Jerry P. Walton of Monticello, Fla., two daughters, Joan Jones of Sumter and Priscilla Hodge of Irmo; a brother, Joseph O. Walton of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Margaret W. Elliott of Richmond; and eight grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Thomas Painter officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be James E. Walton III, Victor Craig Jones Jr., Jerry P. Walton Jr., Clifford P. Hodge III, Benjamin D. Walton and Seth W. Hodge. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, and at other times at the home, 11 Walton St. Memorials may be made to Tuomey Regional Hospice, 31 E. Calhoun St., P.O. Box 325, Sumter, SC 29150, or Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 1233 Washington St., Columbia, SC 29210. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. [1, 3] | |
