| HIST | ANN A. SHORTER Posted Thursday, May 4, 2017 6:00 am Sarah Angelina "Ann" Atkinson Shorter, 74, widow of Cole B. "C.B." Shorter Jr., died on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Atkinson Sr. and Aline Brown Atkinson. Mrs. Shorter was a member of Sumter First Church of the Nazarene, where she was an active member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class, the women's ministry and had served on the missions committee. She was a co-owner of Shorter's Used Cars. Mrs. Shorter was a loving wife, mother, "Mema" and "Monk Monk." Survivors include four children, Gregory Wetherby, Vickie Wetherby Anglin (Robert), Cole B. "Tripp" Shorter III and Pat Shorter Felder (Steve), all of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special extended family members, Renee Shorter, Rob, Ronda and Katie Speed and Susan DuBose. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pam Shorter Porter; grandchildren, Cole, Carrie and Catherine; a great-grandchild, Autumn; her brother, Clyde "Junior" Atkinson Jr.; and her sister, Cora Elizabeth Hutson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Sumter First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Greg Pressley, the Rev. Cheryl Kammermann, the Rev. Dr. James Thrower and the Rev. Nathaniel Brown officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Croft, David Croft Jr., Charles Barwick, Kenny Allen, J.E. Shorter and Jack Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Crusaders Sunday School Class of Sumter First Church of the Nazarene. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday at Sumter First Church of the Nazarene and other times at the home, 125 Wactor St. Memorials may be made to Sumter First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 3700 Patriot Parkway, Sumter, SC 29154.
