Paperwork from William “BIll” Hatchell gives the following information. Husband’s notes- As told to Lenward Hutchinson by Mr. Hudson ad Dora Hatchell Floyd in 1956. Jeff Fryer place is located on what was originally land and homeplace of Jehu Lowry. Descendant Calvin W. Wiggins, Jr. claims Lowry’s land was located on the River Road leading from Florence to Pamplico (presently) where the Bigham family lived, between Lynches Creek and Great Pee Dee River. Jehu Lowry’s major land grant consisted of 2,605 acres platted 2 Jan 1792. His father may have been Thomas Lowry based on given name to Sarah Pilkington Askins and husband Robert T. Askins’ son. The triangular shaped plat appears to straddle Willow Creek and be bordered by Samuel Lee, Adam Cusack, John Lowry, Drury Pilkington and William Gregg. This Wm. Gregg was son of John Gregg who settled at Claussen, having moved there fro Williamsburg Twp, where he was an active Presbyterian founder. Lowry’s original grant was for 50 acreas, Georgetown District, 2 Feb 1769 and surveyed for him 10 Apr 1766 on Willow Creek, bounded SW on Jehu Lowry and Simon Pritchard and other sides vacant. Second grant was for 150 acreas, Georgetown District, dated 2 Jan 1792 and surveyed for him 18 Aug 1791 on Willow Creek bounded SE by Wm. Gregg, SW by said Lowry’s land, and the other side vacant. The third and final grant was for 2,605 acreas, Georgetown District, 2 Jan 1792 and surveyed for him on 19 Aug 1791 on Willow Creek, bounded SE by Sharack Rogers and Jehu Lowry’s land, SW by Samuel Lee and Zackaris Carter, NW by John Day, NE by Dura Pilkington and the other sides vacant. The earliest land deed involving John Lowry occurred 27th & 28th Sep 1772 when Thomas Lee, planter and Ann his wife sold to Lowry 100 acres for 100 pounds, on Willow Creek, Craven County, St. David’s Parish, granted originally to Malichai Murfee by Governor James Glen, then bounded on all sides by vacant land. Murfee sold to Wm. Lacey 1756, Lacy sold to Godfrey Brown 1761, Brown sold to Jonathan Monk 1766, Monk sold to Wm. Riddle 1768, Riddle sold to Thomas Lee 1769. Wit: John Witherington, Dempsey Wood. Recd. 20 Mar 1773. In 1783, Jehu Lowry and Al Lowry were petit jurors from Georgetown Distict.

Concerning Jehu John Lowry's wife, everything I have seen says she was Lydia Bethea and Deborah Lydia Bethea (1737-1801), daughter of John "Virginia" (1700-1799) and Mary Pearce (1700-1757) Bethea. Jehu (1748-1800) appears to have been the son of Robert (1730-1800) and Judith May (1743-1828) Lowry. This likely matches up with what you have found.
