The vacancy was created earlier this year by the recent resignation of former Lee County Treasurer H. Wayne Capell, who has held the position for 30 years and left the position in June to care for a family member. Baker will now assume the role of treasurer. Baker, formerly the county's deputy treasurer, has worked under Capell and served in the county's treasurer office for 33 years. In her inaugural speech, she thanked Capell for his decades of service to the county and said she hopes to continue providing good service to taxpayers in the county. "I've always tried my best to treat taxpayers with respect and dignity that they deserve. I strive to improve and keep things going," Baker said. "I look forward to the future, and I'm excited for the opportunity to serve as treasurer."
