| HIST | Date Published: June 22, 2008 CHARLES W. McCOY Charles W. "C.W." McCoy, 81, widower of Bunell Johnson McCoy, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at his home. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Robert Charlie McCoy and the late Ruth Amerson McCoy. He attended schools in Lamar and served in the Navy during World War II. He had a long career in textiles and retired as manager of U.S. Textiles in Columbia. He was a wonderful family man who loved his children, grandchildren and extended family of brother and sisters and their families. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Mathis (Bobby) of Manning; three grandchildren, Brian Calloway (Stephanie) of Greer, Anita Mathis Ladd (Gary) of Mount Pleasant and Robert Mathis Jr. of Lansing, Mich.; three great-grandchildren, Cammi, Meredith and Madison; four sisters, Lois Windham, Faye Berry and Mary Cavanaw, all of Surfside Beach, and Peggy Reddick of Columbia; and four brothers, Alton McCoy (Amelia) of Columbia, Jimmy McCoy (Roaslee), Pete McCoy (Lilliebell) and Robbie McCoy, all of Sumter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald McCoy. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. David Jeramiah officiating. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Jones, Frankie Berry, Phillip Clark, Clint McCoy, Clay McCoy, Bill Brown, John Windham, Charlie DuBose, Jimmy Cavanaw and Wayne DuBose. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
