SMITH Carol Geddings Smith, 57, wife of Sherwood Dean Smith, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Harmon M. Jr. and Dorothy G. Geddings. Mrs. Smith was a member of Sumter Baptist Temple. Surviving are her husband of Sumter; one daughter, Laura Smith Austin (Chris) of Sumter; one grandson, Dustin Avery; one brother, Harmon M. Geddings III (Debbie) of Manning; two sisters, Terry Welch (Jimmy) and Judy Still (David), both of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Reginald D. Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Lenderman officiating. Burial will follow in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today preceding the service at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Sumter Baptist Temple Building Fund, 2295 Harper St., Sumter, SC 29153. Online condolences may be sent to www.sumterfunerals.com.
