FROM STAFF REPORTS Sumter County resident Morgan Richburg was among a group of high school juniors and seniors from around the state who recently participated in the 2011 South Carolina Farm Bureau Youth Leadership Conference. The annual conference was held at Newberry College and featured a number of workshops that focused on developing leadership and team building along with programs that foster understanding and awareness of agriculture. In addition, conference attendees visited Clemson University, where they learned about agricultural careers available to them through the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences. The conference concluded with commodity marketing campaign presentations which were designed and presented by the students. "Today's youths have a greater opportunity to succeed than the generations before them," said Faith Lawrimore, state Farm Bureau's women's program coordinator. "They have more knowledge and information at their disposal and have higher degrees of technology at their fingertips. This conference is designed to entice participants to learn about the many opportunities in agriculture while enhancing their leadership skills." The conference was coordinated with the assistance of state and county Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committees, who, in addition to working with this event, sponsor a variety of other educational and promotional programs each year. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James “Mood” Newman of Sumter; Mrs. Winnie Johnson of Shiloh Community, S.C. and the late Mr. Troy Johnson. The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Evander Boynton, Jr., of Walterboro, S.C. and the late Mr. and Mrs. O’Dean Hutto, Jr., of Providence Community. Miss Newman is a graduate of Erskine College with a degree in Biology and Political Science. She is currently employed at Lee Newman Farms and is owner/operator of A&L Farm. Mr. Hutto is a graduate of Greenville Tech with a Business Administrative degree. He is currently employed as co-owner/operator of Hutto Brothers Partnership. The wedding in planned for January 6, 2018, at Providence United Methodist Church in Holly Hill, S.C. Mr. Hutto and Miss Newman are excited to be sharing this special time with family and friends.
