Date Published: January 28, 2009 Man struck, killed by vehicle 48-year-old Sumter resident was attempting to cross McCrays Mill Road By MARY DOLAN Item Staff Writer mdolan@theitem.com A 48-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle late Monday night while attempting to cross McCrays Mill Road just east of Griffin Street. David Wayne Ard died in the emergency room of Tuomey Regional Medical Center as the result of multiple trauma from being struck by a vehicle at 10:33 p.m. Monday. Vanessa Taylor, of 4428 Dorsey Drive, was driving a 1997 Saturn southbound on McCrays Mill Road when she struck Ard, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Taylor was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Taylor was transported to Tuomey “because she was shaken up,” according to Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson. Ard was also transported to Tuomey, where he was pronounced dead at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday. Ard had not been wearing reflective clothing and there were no street lights nearby, Robinson said. No charges have been filed against Taylor at this time. Deputy Coroner Robert Galiano said the cause of death was multiple trauma consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Toxicology reports are pending. Ard, of 2090 Tudor St., was disabled and unemployed, according to Galiano. [2, 3] | |
