WILKIE Sr. Matthew Jay Wilkie Sr., 49, died Monday, March 23, 2009, at his home. Born in Sumter, he was a son of Joe T. Sr. and Betty Galloway Wilkie. Mr. Wilkie was a member of Sumter Baptist Temple. He was employed by Thompson Industrial and coached baseball for the Sumter County Parks and Recreation Department. He was a wonderful and loving father and son. Survivors include his parents of Sumter; three children, Matthew Jay Wilkie Jr., Ariel Lynette "Little Girl" Wilkie and Phillip Joseph Wilkie, all of Sumter; two brothers, Tommy Wilkie (Dianna) of the Charleston area and Paul Allen Wilkie (Amy) of Sumter; his girlfriend, Beth Smith of Sumter; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer Wilkie, Stephanie Wilkie, Tripp Wilkie, Kerrie Wilkie, Abby Wilkie, Courtney Wilkie, Jeremy Buckner, Ferris Buckner, Amanda Stewart and Adam Stewart. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Sumter Baptist Temple with the Rev. Eddie Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Summerton. Pallbearers will be Felder Poplin, Richard "Bobo" Moore, Dean Pack, Glenn Nesbitt, Rusty McGee, Patrick Buckner, Robert Stewart and Josey Copeland. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Hudson Jr., Patricia Buddin, Tony Buddin, Drey Brunson, Jeffrey Floyd, Johnny McLeod and Frankie Frye. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of his parents.
