A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in the Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. He was born August 10, 1923, in Florence County, SC, a son of the late Fred B. and Hattie Lee McClam. He graduated from Lake City High School, served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and graduated from the University of South Carolina. He was the owner and operator of the C.K. McClam Company for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church in Florence. A beloved father and grandfather, "Poopa," he is survived by two daughters, Carolyn M. (David) Harrell of Borden, IN, and Harriet L. McClam of Florence; two brothers, Robert McClam of Columbia, SC, and Marvin McClam of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Maegan Kathleen Harrell of Johnson City, TN, and Mason Stanley Harrell of Borden, IN; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Leila P. "Frenchie" McClam; a daughter, Kathleen M. Starks; three brothers, Otis McClam, J.D. McClam and Tom McClam; and two sisters, Kathleen McClary and Louise Floyd. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Mr. McClam's caregivers, Mertice Beard, Renee McNeal and Deborah McNeal. Memorials may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 1300 Second Loop Road, Florence, SC 29505.
