Mitchum, died Monday, July 13, 2009, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Catherine Turner Card and the late Donald Edward Card. Surviving are her husband of Summerton; her mother of Sumter; two sons, Jason Michael Osteen of Sumter and Joshua Lane Pope of Nashville, Tenn.; and seven brothers, Ronnie Card, Donnie Card, Bucky Card, Stan Card and Boodie Turner, all of Sumter, Steve Card of Myrtle Beach and Chris Card of Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Pope officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her mother, 2165 Tanglewood Drive, Sumter. Date Published: July 15, 2009 Summerton woman dies in single car wreck By ROBERT BAKER Item Staff Writer bbaker@theitem.com SUMMERTON – A 49-year-old woman was pronounced dead late Monday night after the car she was driving ran off the road about seven miles south of Summerton, the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported Tuesday. Tammy Card Mitchum, 49, of 1321 Duboise Drive in Summerton, was pronounced dead around 11:24 p.m. after her 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer ran off the left side of the road while heading north on Benton Road near Summerton, hitting a tree stump and ejecting her from the vehicle. “It was a single-car accident,” said Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Charles Jackson. “She hit a tree stump on the side of the road after veering off the left shoulder of the road, and she was ejected from the vehicle.” Jackson said that Mitchum died on impact. “We are unsure at this time what made her run off the side of the road,” Jackson said. “We know that it rained heavily (Monday), and we don’t know whether that affected her. She was coming around a little curve. A deer might have jumped out in front of her. We just don’t know at this point.” Services will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home of Sumter.
