SCARBOROUGH LYNCHBURG -- Cleta Plummer Scarborough, 100, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, Florence. Interment will follow at Fair Hope Cemetery near Lamar. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service. "Ms. Cleta" was born in the Shiloh community of Sumter County, a daughter of the late John Payton and Love Boykin Plummer. Her family moved to Lee County in 1926, and she graduated from Lynchburg High School. She was the oldest member of Lynchburg United Methodist Church. She was married to the late George Putnam Scarborough. The last of nine children, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Lynchburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 308, Lynchburg, SC 29080. Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, 4210 W. Palmetto St., Florence, is assisting the family with arrangements. [1, 2] | |
