| HIST | Date Published: September 6, 2009 EASTER B. MATHIS Easter Brown Mathis, wife of James Osteen Mathis, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Springdale Healthcare Center in Camden. Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Elias M. Brown and Nettie Helen Brown. Mrs. Mathis was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, and a member of the "Faithful Workers Sunday School Class." She is survived by one sister, Louise Snider of Camden, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Earline B. Davis, Velda B. Barnes, and Minerva B. Beasley; and one brother, Woodrow L. Brown. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Rivers officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Salem Baptist Church, 2500 W. Oakland Ave., Sumter, S.C. 29154.
