Mr. Barfield was born Nov. 4, 1932, he was a son of the late William A. and Maggie Ellen Barfield. He retired from the U.S. Air Force, having served during World War II, and was a member of the VFW Post 3034 in Sumter. Following retirement, Mr. Barfield enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jimi Barfield and his wife, Barbara, of Tampa, Fla., Benjamin "Benny" Barfield and his wife, Sheri, of Sumter and Robert "Bobby" Barfield and his wife, Renee, of Sumter; two daughters, Barbara Barfield Jackson and her husband, William, of Columbia and Cheryl Barfield Fluharty and her husband, George, of Sumter; a sister, Mary Anne Barfield Chamberlain and her husband, Jim, of California; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Barfield was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Ashlie Pipkin. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.
