She was born October 23, 1912, in Bishopville, SC, the only daughter of Mary Abbie DuBose DuRant and James Rivers DuRant. She was the widow of Colonel James Archie Cheatham, “Pop.” A graduate of Winthrop, she was an avid bridge player, bowler and member of the Morning Glory Garden Club. Sherwood Forest ARP Church was her home church. She was also a member of the DAR. She is survived by her loving children, James Cheatham of Columbia and Betty Carson (Lloyd) of Gilbert; grandchildren, Paige Covington of Lexington, Michael Carson (Roxann) of Summit and Bree Cox (Simon) of Columbia. Mrs. Cheatham also had nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends at her home, 4318 Timberlane Drive, Monday evening from 5-7. Graveside services for the family will be held Tuesday, December 1 at 11 a.m. in the Florence National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
