She graduated from Thomas Sumter Academy, Columbia College with a bachelor of arts in dance, and from the University of South Carolina with a doctorate of physical therapy. The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Emily Matthews McCarty and the late Willie Tyrone McCarty of Batesburg, and Mr. and Mrs. Willie B. Wingo Jr. of Union. He graduated from Williston-Elko High School and Furman University with a bachelor of arts in religion and a bachelor of science in mathematics-economics.
