STOKES Jr. Ben "Benny" Frank Stokes Jr., 65, died Friday, April 2, 2010, at The Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg. Born in Florence County, he was a son of Vera Watt Stokes Bradham and the late Ben Frank Stokes Sr. Mr. Stokes was a graduate of Edmunds High School in 1965. He was also an Army veteran. Mr. Stokes was an active member of The Historic Church of the Epiphany in Eutawville. He was also a long-term member of The Fishers of Men of eastern Orangeburg County, an interracial and interdenominational group of Christian men who meet monthly at different churches across the county that strive to witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ by doing free home repairs and building handicap ramps for the elderly and needy families of the area. For the past six years, Ben had been an active member and leader in The Beginning Experience, an international Christian Ministry, to those who have lost a loving relationship through death, divorce or separation. Ben was a lively proponent for The Beginning Experience Scholarship Fund, which assists men and women of limited financial means to attend the Beginning Experience Weekend Retreat that helps deal with the grief of their loss. Surviving are his mother of Sumter; two sisters, Patsy Stokes Freeman of Sumter and Phyllis Stokes Worrell of Eutawville; six nieces, Rhonda Skinner and Robin Worrell of Eutawville, and Dawn Freeman Long (Jon), Kendall Long, Michelle Freeman Ballew (Jimmy), and Bailee Ann Ballew, all of Atlanta; five nephews, Tommy Skinner (Penny) and Jon Worrell of Eutawville, and Hayden Paul Long, Cody James Ballew and Jake Ryder Ballew, all of Atlanta; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a niece, Sonya Michelle Skinner. Memorial services will be at held at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Historic Church of the Epiphany, 211 Epiphany Road, Eutawville, with the Rev.
