| HIST | Betty Finke Freed | Visit Guest Book SUMTER - Betty Finke Freed, age 87, wife of the late Hyman Freed, died on Friday, June 25, 2010, at her residence. She was born in New York, a daughter of the late Charles Finke and Anne Krein Finke. She was the founder of The Freed School of Performing Arts and was a member of Temple Sinai, where she was a member of the Temple Sinai Sisterhood. Surviving are four daughters, Barbara Freed James and her husband Tommie of Camden, Anita Freed Marcus and her husband David of Kingstree, Andrea Freed Levenson and her husband Joe of Sumter and Judi Freed Siegfried and her husband Kevin of Oviedo, FL; one brother, Dr. Jay Finke of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Marion Finke Feinstein of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren, Geri James Weinbaum, Traci James Pavel, Michael Hill Marcus, Charlie Andrew Marcus, Carrie Levenson Galphin, Erin Gayle Levenson, Hayden Chase Siegfried, and Anna Freed Siegfried; three great-grandchildren, Asher Weinbaum, Abigayl Burnikel and Sophie Marcus; a sister-in-law, Molly Ross; and life long friend and companion, Marie Greene. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Temple Sinai with Rabbi Robert A. Siegel officiating. Burial will be held in the Sumter Jewish Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Temple Sinai, 13 Church Street, Sumter, SC 29150 or to Tri-County Home Healthcare or Hospice, 2650-B Hardee Cove, Sumter, SC 29150.
