Martin SUMMERTON — Doris Evelyn Avant Martin, 85, wife of Robert Cantey “Bobby” Martin, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at her home in Summerton. Born Oct. 16, 1927, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Wade Avant and Evelyn Boyette Avant. She was a graduate of Coker College, where she majored in music and shared her voice for many years with her community through weddings, funerals and many other events. She was a former member of the Pink Dogwood Garden Club and a member of Summerton Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband of Summerton; two sons, C. Norman Martin (Donna) of Summerton and Wade A. Martin (Tammy) of Manning; two daughters, Sherry Martin Stewart (Dwight) of Summerton and Bonnie Martin Eagerton (Bert) of Manning; 11 grandchildren, Drew Stewart (Jill), Kate Lincoln (Stephen), Seth Stewart (Patty), Neathery Elliott (Teige), Rob Eagerton (Janice), Erin Eagerton, Cantey Gibbons (Wade), Sarah Gibson (Ben), Mary-Michal Martin, Camlin McLellan (Jonathan) and Tyler Martin; nine great-grandchildren; and a special daughter, Shirley James McBride (William) of Summerton. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Summerton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Garland Hart and the Rev. Dr. Dick Lincoln officiating. Burial will follow in Summerton Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephew and grandsons-in-law. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service in the fellowship hall of Summerton Presbyterian Church and other times at the residence. The family would like to thank Virginia Black, other caregivers, and Embrace Hospice. Memorials may be made to Summerton Presbyterian Church, 16 S. Cantey St., Summerton, SC 29148.
