HAMER Mary T. Hamer, 89, beloved wife of the late Robert H. Hamer, died quietly at her home Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010. She was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Robeson County, N.C., a daughter of the late Luther B. and Ellen C. Lewis Tyner. Mrs. Hamer was a 50-year member of Dalzell Baptist Church, where she served as the church pianist for most of those years. She was a devoted wife and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Mary D. Knowlton of Sumter; and a brother, Marvin L. Tyner of Tabor City, N.C. Also mourning her passing are four grandchildren, Ellen H. Glover and her husband, Ronnie, and Glenn Hodge, all of Sumter, W.A. "Bill" Garris and his wife, Greta, of Beulaville, N.C., and R.B. "Bob" Garris and his wife, Kelley, of Auburn, Ala.; her former son-in-law, Harold G. Hodge; and one nephew, Murray Ellis and his wife, Ann, of Sumter. She was preceded in death by her beloved youngest daughter, Daisy Lillian Hamer Hodge; one sister, Ruby Ellis; and five brothers, Leslie, Hezzie, Lewis, Glen and Horace Tyner. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Linderman officiating. Burial will follow at Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harold Hodge, Glenn Hodge, Bob Garris, Ronnie Glover, Murray Ellis and Dave Ellis. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the family home.
