She graduated from Ashland High School, Ashland, Ohio, Winthrop University with a bachelor of arts in dance and Florida State University with a master of fine arts in choreography and performance. She is employed as an instructor of dance at Winthrop University and Westminister Arts Academy, Rock Hill. The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Francis Kearns and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Michael Schriffen, all of New Hyde Park, N.Y. He graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a bachelor of science in elementary education and Winthrop University with a master's degree in education. He is employed as a third-grade teacher at Providence Spring Elementary School, Charlotte, N.C. The wedding is planned for May 21, 2011, at Church of the Holy Comforter, Sumter.
