Born on May 3, 1952, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late James Oscar Evans and Bertha Scott Evans. She was medically retired from Bosch Braking System of Sumter. Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Ann Welch of Sumter; a son, Alton Ray Welch Jr. of Sumter; three grandchildren, Shamone Garcia of Columbia, Chelsea Welch and Cody Welch, both of Belton; a sister, Mary Ann Snipes (Jim) of Charleston; sisters-in-law, Sarah Evans of Sumter, Patricia Evans of Moncks Corner, Jackie Lee of Effingham, Ruby Evans of Lake City and Buena Lea of Jordan; brothers-in-law, Randall Welch (Shirley) of Sumter and Roger Welch of Myrtle Beach; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and a special caregiver and friend, Lisa Cox. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Green Acres Assembly of God with the Rev. Michael Bowman officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday at Green Acres Assembly of God and other times at the home, 1304 Fairlawn Drive, Sumter.
