| HIST | Moni W. Cheagle Heaven welcomed a new angel with the passing of Moni Williams Cheagle, 37, of Ridgeway, on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011. Moni courageously battled abdominal cancer but God heard the pleas of her family and friends to stop her pain and suffering and showed his mercy by allowing her to pass peacefully in her home. The life of Moni Williams Cheagle began on Sept. 8, 1973, when she was born in Albert Einstein Hospital, Bronx, N.Y. Moni's family relocated to Sumter when she was 3 and she was formally educated in Sumter School District 17. Moni was a cheerleader at both Alice Drive Middle School and Sumter High School. At Sumter High School, Moni met her husband, Christopher Cheagle. Moni loved being a devoted wife and mother. She was a wonderful wife and an awesome mother. She was an extremely spiritual woman who was raised as a Baptist and member of St. Matthews Baptist Church, Sumter. She later became a member of Brookland Baptist Church, North East Columbia, with her husband and son. Moni truly was a phenomenal woman of courage, drive and spirit. Prior to her battle with cancer, Moni was pursuing her doctor of philosophy at the University of South Carolina in educational leadership. Moni received her bachelor of science degree in special education from Winthrop University and her master of science degree in educational administration from Texas A&M with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. While at Winthrop University as an undergraduate, Moni pledged into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and was a lifelong member. Moni's diverse career in education started as a special education teacher in San Antonio, Texas. Throughout her life, Moni held several positions in education to include special education teacher in San Antonio and Augusta, Ga.; elementary school assistant principal in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Chester, Pa.; the youngest director of special education in Pennsylvania at Chester; and was an elementary school principal at Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science in Winnsboro. As an educator, Moni made a difference and touched thousands of young lives in education. Moni's favorite cliche as an educator was "Choices are directly related to consequences." Moni 's passing leaves a tremendous void in so many lives. Her physical body is gone but her smile and spirit will remain with us forever. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Moni was the daughter of Hazel Singleton Clark (Dewitt) and the late Jonathan Williams. She is survived by her brothers, Shed Sweat Jr. and Zuri Williams, both of Brooklyn, Jermaine Sweat (Penny) of Sumter and Jonathan Williams of Lakeland, Fla.; her sisters, Evelyn Lewis (Wesley) of Dalzell, Betty Witherspoon and Belva Logan (Wil), both of Sumter, and Yasmin Williams of New Jersey; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Cheagle of Sumter; brother-in-law, Andrian Cheagle (Pam) of Moncks Corner; sister-in-law, Renata Alston (Jamall) of Columbia; maternal grandmother, Mariah Murray; paternal grandmother, Mamie White Williams; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends.
