Martha Chandler DARLINGTON - Martha Wilkins Chandler died January 26, 2013, in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Mrs. Chandler was born on October 13, 1924, in Hattiesburg, MS, and was the daughter of the late Bert and Augusta Wilkins of Hattiesburg, MS. She was graduated from the University of Mississippi and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Mrs. Chandler was the loving wife of the late A. Lee Chandler to whom she was married for more than sixty-six years. She accompanied Justice Chandler during the many years in which he served the judiciary of the State of South Carolina. The Chandlers lived in Darlington for more than fifty years and were faithful parishioners of St. Matthews Episcopal Church where Martha served as church secretary, member of the Altar Guild, member of the Episcopal Church Women, EYC leader and Sunday school teacher. She also served as Treasurer of Trinity Church in Society Hill, SC, the first Episcopal Church in Darlington County. Mrs. Chandler is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Robert Rouse, her grandson and his wife, Wilson and Pendleton Rouse, and a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Wilkins Rouse, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Her brother and his wife, Dr. Bert Wilkins and Anne, reside in Baton Rouge, LA. Graveside services will at 11:00 AM, January 30, at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The Right Reverend John C. Buchanan of Mt. Pleasant will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 205 South Main St., Darlington, SC 29532 or to Doctors Without Borders, USA Headquarters, 333 7th Avenue, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001-5004.
